Organization Continues to grow: (posted
07/14/08)
The Lady Ducks organization continues
to grow Both its in house and travel program by
offering a full time 8U program for the girls again
in 2008-09! We are very proud to be working with
over 100 girls, ages 4-16, beginner to college prospect
on reaching their goals in ice hockey.
REMINDER: If you are a player 6-14
there is a Recreational team of girls for YOU! The
Lady Ducks staff works hard to develop both travel
and house level girls just learning the game. You
do NOT have to have any experience in the game to
be a "Lady Duck"! There are in house teams
at 8U, 10U and 12U for all girls interested.
Sign up at Anaheimice.com for hockey
INITIATION (less than a year skating), or in house
hockey and request to be put with other girls, so
the Lady Ducks Development staff can teach you the
game.
Recreational hockey is based on
teaching "on/after every shift", playing
all the girls fairly, and having a great time learning
hockey. Come out and be a Lady Duck just contact
the Lady Ducks Head Coach at ladyduckscoach@aol.com
Midwest
Elite Hockey League: (posted

The Lady Ducks were accepted into
the MIDWEST
ELITE HOCKEY LEAGUE, beginning this
season, 2008-09!! The MWEHL League is for teams 14U
and up and is a PREMIER SHOWCASE league that is heavily
scouted and will triple the number of games our girls
are exposed to scouts! The Lady Ducks will be playing
showcase weekends during the Fall against teams like,
Little Ceasers, Honeybaked, Belle Tire, Team Illinois,
Team Pittsburgh and more! Coaches Louise,
Vicky, and Kathy are VERY excited about the opportunity
for our College bound players!
Coaching Announcement: (posted
06/02/08)
The Anaheim Lady Ducks are
happy to Announce that Don Johnson will begin working
with the girls' AAA teams as a coach At-Large in
2008-09. Don,
is an elite and well-known hockey instructor in Orange
County and runs several programs through his DonJohnsonHockey.com private
instruction, clinics and Camps.
In addition, the Anaheim
Amateur Hockey association, Jr. and Lady Ducks
have hired goalie instructor David Freeze to work
with all goalies in our program. David has an extensive
resume of players he's helped to develop and train
goalies ages 5-20 at all levels at private, group
and "at practices" including
our Lady Ducks goalies 10U - 16U.
Welcome to both coaches!!
Congratulations: (posted

Congratualtions are in order
for both Taylor Volpe (92) and Kyra Koncar (93)
who will be headed off to prep school next season
!! Both girls are
doing great in high school and in hockey and but
were offered the chance to try the prep school option
and wanted to give it a try! Tails will be
headed to Gilmour Academy and Kyra will be at Canterbury
next year.
The Lady Ducks had 21 inquiries
from Prep schools for players ages 13-16 this
year.
Although prep school is not
an option for most (at costs of $20,000-$40,000,
a LONG time away from home, etc...) it can be a
great opportunity. Some
school districts in California are very difficult
on attendance and are not very accomodating to students
(Taylor)... Others are looking for a unique
experience of both academic and athletic rigor available
at many Preps (Kyra).
As Head coach of the Lady
Ducks I hate to see two strong players leave us
but at the same time, we wish them all the best
in their hockey endeavors back east. The
16U Lady Ducks look forward to playing against
them in CT and possibly at Nationals in 2009.
Have a great season! Remember strong grades and
exposure at key tournaments get you the opportunities
available at the Prep school and collegiate levels.
GO Lady DUCKS!!!

Lady Duck's Alum TEARING up
the ice!!: (posted 01/29/08)
Way to go Court! That's my GIRL!!!
"Who Was That To?"
A little story about Courtney. She was 10
1/2 years old and had been playing ice for about
a year or so (having started in roller for a short
time, I believe). We drafted her onto a co-ed
team with mostly girls and started working toward
a Lady Ducks 12U team, for the first time. I think
that was late 2000 my first year as a head coach. Anyway,
one of the fundamentals we were working on was controlling
the puck and passing accurately, TO SOMEONE!! Seems
obvious but with a varied skill level and lots on
our agenda, I would shout out during the game to
players who gave the puck away for no reason, "Who
Was That To?"
Well, I would say that Courtney was the first one
to really "get it" and forced herself
to take the risks of holding that puck, skating with
it, creating space, etc...until the pass was
there to be made. And, she quickly elevated her game
to passing accurately and smartly. I think it was
about two months into the season when I realized
my quote: "Who was THAT to?" had
been taken to heart by her when all of a sudden during
a game, Courtney spoke up from the bench during
a play and shouted to her teammate: "Who was
THAT to??" I smiled. A captain had been
born.
Here
is an article from the paper in Amherst. Enjoy.
